In the distant past, a time of magic and swordplay, there lived Harold, the mightiest lich of all, a master of arcane sciences, and a challenger of gods. After reaching the pinnacle of his power and finding it surprisingly bland, Harold waged a cataclysmic war against the gods, aiming to shatter the very system that confined him.
Then, he took a nap.
An incredibly long nap that ends with a jolt, thanks to an unwitting adventurer who trips into Harold’s crypt. Blinking into the torchlight, Harold finds a world he barely recognizes. No more swords and sorcery, but a universe buzzing with cultivation, celestial sects, and far too many pretentious dialogues about the path to godhood.
Harold is no naïve cultivator. He’s an ancient lich with a single ambition: to slide back into his uninterrupted eternal slumber. But the cacophony of quarreling sects and smug martial artists seems determined to keep him awake.
Undeterred, the sleep-deprived overlord is ready to confront this brave new world. After all, no aspiring deity, no grandiose sect, and certainly no self-righteous martial artist is going to rob him of his beauty sleep.

Second book soon?

Not bad; it’s capable of keeping me engaged, which is a lot more than many other recent fantasy books do. Though the girl’s voice and personality sounds a lot younger than that of a 19 yo girl, which is what her age is supposed to be.

Alex is very super gay tho with all his crossdressig and shiz. A bit unnecessary but the book is good nonetheless.

considering it’s soundbooth theater, I’ll give it a try. Needing something else to funnel audible credits to after finishing up Dungeon Crawler Carl, or at least what’s been written.

I love the book plus Jeff Hays. Though Alex is unnecessarily gay. Idk what’s the deal with that and I respect the author’s choice but I think Alex could’ve been unique and quirky without being gay. I can pull through it somehow. His POV is a bit uncomfortable tho

I, too, found that Alex did not sit well with me. It is a curious and immersion-breaking choice that skates just barely this side of what I’m willing to accept. And there seems no purpose to it beyond whim, and what of the plot supports it (without revealing any spoilers) is rather flimsy. I also find my self wondering just who taught Alex to make clothes and when? It seems unlikely either of Alex’s… err… component organisms were dressmakers, and making clothing that actually looks professional needs practice, not mere knowledge. And if Alex was CREATED with the ability to make dresses…. WHY? Is this a common undead skill?
I also share the impression that, based on voice, the Limpet should be perhaps six or seven- not approaching 20. This is a minor detail, though, and I can live with it.
Other than that, though, I’m loving this. The notion of two competing systems is a fascinating one, and I’m kind of getting a little bit of Overlord vibes from it, which is (at least for me) a good thing. Plus, it’s great to encounter a protagonist who should conventionally be evil or at least morally dubious… and actually IS! If one can mentally compartmentalize Alex and set him… or whatever is the appropriate term, given Alex’s origins, aside and not think too much about, it I think this is well worth a listen. I, personally, look forward to listening to the remainder of the series as time and opportunity permit.
