I always figured I’d eventually get killed in my line of work. I just assumed I’d stay dead at that point.
I was the one people hired to do the killing, after all. I knew a thing or two about how death worked. So when I was finally taken down during a high-profile hit, I was ready to embrace death with open arms.
Except I didn’t fully die.
Not yet, at least.
Some crazy afterlife system seems to have had me on its radar for a while now, and I’ve just been recruited to kill my way through a whole different world like it is a demented video game. A game filled with corrupt slumlords, shadowed alleyways, and hulking, superpowered brute villains to murder.
This is my new assignment. My new world. My new purgatory. If I choose a Class and level my way up out of here, I could have a second chance at existence.
But I never was one for following the rules. I’d much rather unlock my own damn Class, murder my targets any way I please, and get the hell back to Earth as fast as I can.
Or die trying. Again.

This one just sounds like a solid listen. Never heard of the author before but, I do know the narrators always do a great job in the books they do.

Jesus fuck, Chapter 1 is 1 hr 30 mins long; it spends one fucking hour going over class description this, subclass that, and all that gets thrown out of the window when MC doesn’t even choose any of them. I’m sure the author was trying to make a point about the MC carving his own path, but holy fuck did they choose to portray it in the most meandering way possible.
And it’s a shame too because the narrators really did do a great job.

@pemico4454 is right. ch 1. is a massive waste of time. the first 5-10 minutes is good but after an hour and he is still reading through the classes is too much. MC (I hate the tank class, I will never be a tank class. I am going to read everyone line in the class description and sub class for every tank class and then say why I would not pick that class. It comes across as the writer finished his book and then the publishers was like we need 30 more pages, so the author went back and add this completely unnecessary section to fill a quota. listen to it at high speed or just skip it when it gets to class selection. it adds nothing and takes you out of what started out to be a good a story.
