The long-awaited sequel to Jake’s Magical Market is finally here—and now with more market!
Well, not quite yet. First, Jake has to survive a perilous trek through time if he ever hopes to return home to his friends, his market, and his former world. The last time we saw our intrepid hero, Jake had barely managed to escape being trapped on a dead version of his own world. Using a combination of his new powers, he threw himself backward through time, back to when the god that trapped him first rose to power. There, Jake snatched divinity from the hands of the ascending god, consuming it for himself without any regard for the consequences of his actions. In a surprise twist, such a poorly thought-out plan came with some serious downsides! Now Jake has a big target painted on his back. The jealous gods of this world are hungry for divine power and not afraid to kill another god to get it. Stuck in the past, Jake must learn to navigate a world full of desperate gods, wild monsters, bizarre powers, and weird “cultivating” mortals who claim they can become just as powerful as the gods themselves—as long as they get to sit around contemplating the mysteries of the universe for a few hundred years first. Join Jake on his next grand adventure as he learns what it means to be a newly ascended divinity, how to survive in such a strange new world, and how he might just have an unexpected edge on everyone and everything that’s out to get him—by learning how to craft his own magical cards!

While it does suck with the change of narrator, at least the author had a good reason for it (baldree is booked up completely until 2026 at the earliest, according to both him and the author on reddit).
Mathews might do a 3-in-1 audiobook release in the future, with the same narrator for all 3.

I wish i would have realized that the narrator changed before i re-listened to the 1st book before starting book 2 . It would of been less jarring not hearing the 1st book for a few months before starting the 2nd. I was able to adjust the EQ to make it more bearable not that john is bad or anything.

I appreciate the apology but imo, if you can’t get the same narrator you should just shelve it entirely. I will still give it a listen since it’s not like I paid for it or anything.

Narrator was fine, this second book is about half as good as the original. I don’t know if the problem was it seemed like he was stuck compared to the last book or the fact that there seemed to be zero sense of urgency but it wasn’t as compelling.

Anyone else having problem with this version of audiobook, listening on sirin app and it just stop playing on and resets from beginning, then i need to skip for couple of minutes(worst case was 20min or something like that) and it is okey for some time than it happens againe..it worked perfect for first 9 hours but now it happens every 15 to 30minutes, and it is soo annoying, and worst of all it happens when something big happens in story.

This material would be more enjoyable if it weren’t so left-leaning. The author and the hero of the story have many interesting ideas, unfortunately they leave them behind the door along with their brains when they collide with any female character in the plot. 1 Part was only slightly leftist, unfortunately in part 2 the level of leftism increased by 60%. I would probably read part 3, but I’m afraid of the growth trend and the resulting degradation of the plot, which would be a waste of my time.

Thanks for the upload! Any chance you have book 3 already?

@Metalsowa: the author should absolutely make sure to include some female mistreatment, even some sexual assault, to cater to your taste. Maybe if you write a polite email?
Anyways..
The narrator is great. I don’t understand the complaints. I listened to book one and two back to back and if anything the new voice suits Jake much better. Baldree would inject a little gravel from time to time, which doesn’t fit. It’s not the narrator’s fault that this second book is rambling and aimless, nor that Jake’s whining is unsufferable. The author cannot write romance to save his life and the feable attempts at humor are just pathetic.
Thanks for the upload 👍

Narrator: 10/10
I loved Travis but new VA matches a younger man much better. It hurt to jave Travis VA such an idiot.
Story 4/10:
Pretty decent world building comparable to the second half of the first book. HOWEVER, the author reset all progress made by the MC and returned him into passive idiot. It is good to write a world that even the audience doesn’t know how to deal with to overwhelm the MC; however, he writes a MC that can’t seem to do two things at once or that more than one thing can happen in a day. Go to market? Days over. Fight a crab? Days over. Make a card that can help you out of tricky situations and can think critically? Give it away. And the day is over. The powerful gods? Well they destroyed their city because they couldn’t decide how to manage childrens theatre. Worldbuilding is garbage.
Characters 1/10:
AMCs reaction to every situation is “Huh!?” Followed by how much of an idiot he really is. Half way through the story, rejoice, there is some chatacter development. Everyone in the novel will literally call the MC an idiot and so will you. He is even worst than in the first half of book 1. More power but he makes such bad decisions so much I had to turn off the audio book numerous times to cringe.
