Honestly, I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, siphon. I was hoping the second book was just as good. It was cute at first and exciting but after it feels like it gets more and more ridiculous. She turns from a quirky shy girl into a kinda annoyingly snobby and self righteous. Always encountering rude high ranking people and going full, “I’m special, don’t mess with me; i’m going to teach you a lesson harhar” too many times for it to kinda get stale. I cant help but to keep comparing it with the manga. She morphed into almost the same character instead of just being vaguely similar in situations.

eh ya know what, i was a bit too harsh. its fine, though it started to get cringy at times. Since its the author’s story, everything lines up in the end. Though during the story, many situations just feel so… idealized yet handled so badly. For example, hey this kid bully is angry at me. I want to form the first human binding contract in the world on him so he cant hurt me and she just straight up tells people that and is like “its for the best” and i’m like :| soul binding contract magic for something sorta petty that could be solved other ways. But then the author decides to make the bully another friend down the road that accepts it readily and it all works out. Which threw me for a loop because this stuff really doesn’t happen in other stories. Just one out of many other weird personality shifts that turn petty small encounters into big debacles solved through intimidation, violence, or tattle telling her royal friends.

I’ve been enjoying this series and still am, but it makes me sad our MC is changing so much. It was hard not to love this skinny corky funny girl with a ton of talent, but now she’s got a I’m so special attitude and wants to bind people to her will, also the dub D chest…. idk I just hope girls reading this don’t start to thinkIng they’re not perfect the way they are.
